Garden city needs its gardens. Bengaluru's parks are not spare land. They are the city's lungs, and they are under threat. 

Lalbagh, Cubbon Park, every neighbourhood park where your kids learnt to cycle, where you took your evening walk, where the air actually feels different. These aren't leftover plots waiting for a "better" use, they're the oxygen lungs, the carbon sponges, and the shade of a city that badly needs all three.

Under a new amendment to the Karnataka Government Parks (Preservation) Act, 1975, up to 5% of any government park can now be sold, leased, gifted, exchanged or mortgaged away for "public infrastructure." That 5% might sound small. It isn't. Applied across every park and garden in the state, it opens the door to permanent loss of the green spaces this city depends on to breathe. This Bill has already passed both houses of the Karnataka legislature without real debate, and it's now sitting with the Governor, waiting for assent. Once signed, it's law.

 Bengaluru is already losing the battle against heat, flooding, and air pollution, with one of the lowest per capita green space ratios of any major Indian city. Once park land is alienated through sale or long lease, it does not come back, and a "public utility project" today becomes a permanent concrete footprint tomorrow.

We are calling on the Government of Karnataka to protect Bengaluru's parks from diversion, sale, or construction, full stop. No park should give up even one square foot of its soil, its trees, or its shade. Add your name.
